HAPPY HOUR: Our engagement story, how well do we know each other & more!
AMY: Welcome to the Peaceful Entrepreneur podcast, where together we are finding peace in the process of everyday business ownership by improving one step at a time, how we think and what we do. I'm your host, Amy Stout.
Hello Luke.
LUKE: Hi Amy. Sorry, I forgot your name there for a second.
AMY: Happy happy hour.
LUKE: Yes, thank you. Same to you. Welcome back.
AMY: Welcome back. Let's set the stage here. It is 5:51pm. On the table in front of us are our happy hour drinks. On the TV is the Masters. Outside a spring thunderstorm is rolling in.
LUKE: And Amy is under a blanket. Makes zero sense.
AMY: Comfort people. And there's a stink bug on the blinds. It's just a lovely evening to record a happy hour.
LUKE: It really is. It's a great evening for it.
A little overcast, a little spring thunderstorm rolling in. Seems pretty light so far. We'll keep you all updated as the episode progresses.
AMY: We are meteorologists now.
LUKE: I am, yeah.
AMY: I'm a bartender today.
LUKE: I was gonna say we were just talking about last happy hour that I'm usually the bartender, you know, you're the the coffee girl.
And today we have an Amy bartender drink. I have not tried it. I did not witness any of the proceedings. I see ice, I see clear liquid, and I see bubbles, which is a good sign. And I also saw half of a lime in the kitchen just a second ago, when I went in there to grab my water bottle.
So why don't you go ahead and tell us what we're drinking tonight.
AMY: Okay, so you wanna know what it is before you try it?
LUKE: Oh, do you want me to guess?
AMY: I mean, sure, that could be fun.
LUKE: I'll do it. Also, as we cheers it up here in a second, just a reminder to drink responsibly. Know your limits. Drink in moderation. Please.
AMY: I loaded up on protein before so that I wouldn't be drinking his own empty stomach.
LUKE: Smart.
AMY: We have to cheers this.
LUKE: We do have to cheers this.
This is yet another thing that does not work well in the audio podcast format. But I'm going to try to pick this up with the mic here in a second as we get one for the Instagram first.
Refreshing. Tastes really good.
So I can probably guess that there's lime in this.
AMY: A good first guess.
LUKE: Good first guess. It's very good, very refreshing.
AMY: I'm glad you like it.
LUKE: There's also ice. So that's another one. You also just got this Nojito Spindrift. I'm not picking up a whole lot of mint, but maybe the Nojito doesn't have a lot of mint flavoring in it.
If you're not familiar with Spindrift, if it's a popular seltzer water brand that they do a little bit of like juice in there.
AMY: It's superior in my opinion.
I know that's not your opinion, Luke, but in my opinion, it's superior because it has the juice. So Liquid Death is—
LUKE: Choose your next words carefully.
AMY: Right up there.
LUKE: Right up there. Okay.
AMY: Tied.
LUKE: Tied. Wow. Liquid Death is by far the best seltzer water. I am a huge advocate. Liquid Death if you'd like to sponsor me or this podcast.
AMY: Or Spin Drift.
LUKE: Nah, don't worry about it. No, I'm kidding. Battle of the brands, but Liquid Death is superior.
AMY: I was literally dreaming yesterday. I was like, oh my gosh, one day, if we have a video format of the podcast, we could just have our Liquid Deaths on the table or our Spin Drifts on the table as a sponsorship.
LUKE: We probably couldn't have both.
AMY: One can dream.
LUKE: Anyway, I'm picking up some, I'm gonna guess Nojito and gin, maybe? And maybe a little bit of triple sec? I can't quite tell. And then the lime.
AMY: Two out of four.
LUKE: I only had one sip, so let me take another sip.
AMY: Yeah, give it another sip.
LUKE: Oh, oh, oh, oh, Sprite.
AMY: Yeah.
LUKE: It's a Sprite instead of the Nojito.
AMY: Mm-hmm.
LUKE: Yeah.
AMY: I swiped a Sprite last night at an event I was at and brought it home.
LUKE: It makes it sound like you stole it.
AMY: I know.
LUKE: Swiper no swiping.
AMY: It's for college students and I'm not a college student, so sorry.
LUKE: So she basically stole it and it's not gin.
AMY: It's not gin.
LUKE: Oh, it's vodka. I was trying to think of what other clear alcohols we had. And I knew we were out of tequila.
AMY: Yep.
LUKE: And we have some rum in there too though. Right?
AMY: Yeah. I went vodka. It was triple sec, vodka, Sprite. It's fresh lime juice. Yep.
LUKE: Straight from the lime. Nice. It's very good. Very refreshing.
Again, reminder to drink responsibly.
AMY: All right, jumping into another happy hour episode and we have got some audience participation on this one. I asked earlier a couple of questions that people have. So thank you to Delaney and Whitney for asking us questions.
Delaney said, okay, so for the first quarter of 2023, what has been our, it's three favorite things, book, song and snack.
LUKE: Ooh.
AMY: I feel like you can probably answer song better and I can answer book better. We can both do snack.
LUKE: We can both do snack. Book, I haven't really done a lot of reading so far this year. I'm trying to get back into it. So I would say the Bible.
AMY: Nice. I'm not gonna pull my good reads up, but I really like--
LUKE: That's funny 'cause I'm pulling my music app up 'cause there have been a lot of really good songs.
AMY: The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewel was a really good thriller recommended by Joy. Shout out. She's on another episode this season and um, it got me back into a thriller mood.
So I really enjoyed that one as far as yeah. And I don't really have a favorite song.
I guess I have a favorite worship song.
LUKE: Well, that's counts as like a favorite song.
AMY: Yes. I'm going to shout this out. Um, our worship team at church does a retreat every year for us and it's like a spiritual health retreat.
So we're not doing any worship related things. It's, I mean, it's worship related, but it's not like us giving. It's us receiving, right?
And they bring, this is the second year they've done it. And they bring in like a popular Christian musician. So to this year, they brought in Aaron Williams, who wrote Abide, which is so cool.
I always connected, I've always connected with it, obviously because of the name, but I literally got to meet the guy who wrote it, hear the story behind it. And it just makes me, not that I didn't already love the song but love it even more.
LUKE: Yeah that's awesome.
AMY: That's one of my faves right now. I'll do my song.
LUKE: I was trying to think of there have been quite a few cool drops so far this year but yeah there really have. I mean for those of you that don't know I'm a huge electronic fan. Dance music, house music, dubstep, a lot of subgenres. And Skrillex has not released an album since like 2014 so I was still in high school, which is crazy. And he dropped two albums in the matter of 48 hours.
So all of those songs like if you go to my like Apple Music replay so far this year, it's very much Skrillex, but I would have to say top one would be Rumble Which is Fred Again Skrillex and Flowdan.
AMY: That's definitely been the song of the first quarter definitely and I'm grateful because I don't love all the artists that you listen to but I do really like Skrillex. So I feel like I could I had a higher tolerance for hearing his songs over and over.
LUKE: Yes, and his new stuff too like if you're not familiar a lot of people listening probably know Skrillex is like Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites and Bangerang that era like the old like really wubby 2011/2012 dubstep.
AMY: You're totally speaking a different language.
LUKE: That's fair, but you know like you probably have heard a Skrillex song in the past and yeah, but he's evolved as an artist. So it's not that same sound so yeah, Amy enjoys it even more.
AMY: That's a good one.
LUKE: And then the last one was snack right?
AMY: Yeah, I was gonna say we were on a cheddar cheese Pringles kick for a really long time. That was bad and I just kept getting mad because I would first of all we would only buy one canister of them how would you call it can and I like to savor things and Luke likes to just eat things.
LUKE: I eat to fulfill a need. We can't share snacks.
AMY: We can't we have to buy separate snacks. So I started buying two and then he would finish his and start eating mine. So that's been a whole thing, but I haven't ordered in the last couple weeks.
LUKE: I was gonna say my favorite snack so far this year has to be sugar snap peas.
AMY: Oh, yeah, you do love those.
LUKE: I go through about a bag a week. I don't know man. I love them. They’re a great vegetable. It's a very snackable vegetable and there's no prep involved.
Obviously, you might need to wash them depending on where you get them from but there's no cutting like a baby carrot. You can just pop them. So I'll just I eat those like every lunch. I'll eat them as a snack occasionally.
But I go through about a bag a week.
AMY: Yeah, and I don't like them. So it's all you.
LUKE: Yeah, and it's a good source of you know good. I guess vitamins and stuff I'm not familiar with the full nutritional facts, but I would imagine it's fairly healthy because I'm eating them raw, right?
Yeah, so I'm not cooking anything out of them and they're vegetable. So yeah, absolutely.
AMY: Okay, what are our favorite date nights? Favorite date nights. This is from Whitney. We have a date day that we like.
LUKE: Yeah, I was going to say, like, our dates are usually during the day, which I think we talked about last time, going to get coffee and either going to Target or somewhere and just kind of hanging out.
But date night, I would say like a nice dinner, but not anything too fancy. We love this really good Mediterranean place here in town that we've known the owners of for several years. It's not a super fancy place, but it is good food.
AMY: It's a lot of food.
LUKE: It's definitely most bang for your buck.
AMY: I would say that's a top one.
LUKE: I really liked, we went to this, I'm not big on Italian food, but we tried this Italian place that's pretty big and loved it. I would go back there. We did that just a couple months ago, right?
AMY: Yeah. And then there's a couple really good delis that we have here in town too that we like to do this for a lunch.
LUKE: That's more of a, yeah, that's a lunch date.
AMY: Okay, Delaney also asked about personal hobbies outside of the business. - Personal hobbies outside the business.
LUKE: So well, let's see, working out. I work out quite a few times a week. I enjoy that. Amy walks, yep. I do a variety of different kind of workouts, getting outside or doing weights, whatever. So that's a big one. I also enjoy playing video games with my friends. So I've got a couple of buddies that like the three or four of us play pretty consistently. So it's a great time just to hang out virtually, I guess, but to kind of laugh and tell stories and make fun of each other.
AMY: And while you're doing that, I like to read.
LUKE: Yes.
AMY: Or watch a show.
LUKE: Or watch a show.
AMY: Or a YouTube video.
LUKE: It's kind of our separate time. A lot of people will tell you, and I think it's very true, that even when you're married, having things that you do individually, like alone is still very important. It's still healthy to do, I think.
AMY: Absolutely.
LUKE: Another, probably my other biggest hobby is making music. So I do that partially for the business in making like theme songs. I produced the theme song for this podcast.
AMY: Working on two others right now.
LUKE: Working on two others at the moment. Yep, so I like doing that. I do that for myself too. I do have a SoundCloud. You'll just have to find it. Maybe one day we'll promote it on here.
AMY: He has an Instagram too.
LUKE: I also have an Instagram, but I don't really do anything with that.
AMY: I really like your DJ name.
LUKE: Thanks, that's pretty creative. That will get a reveal at some point. I also got a DJ deck. I think I mentioned this last episode, but so I've also been wondering how to DJ, which is fun as well.
So I get to play my own music and other music and kind of work on mixing and stuff. So nice.
That’s a really good thunder roll. I don't think the mics picked that up, but it was a really good one. Spring, summer thunderstorm. That's hard to beat.
I think spring is the best time for a thunderstorm.
AMY: Yeah, totally.
LUKE: Because on a summer day when it's like really hot, then it just gets super humid afterwards. So spring, it's not quite as hot out.
I can remember times during the summer where I'd have to wear, you know, my North Face rain jacket and it just after you even during the rain, but also after like it just sticks to you like instantly. And you don't get that with a spring shower.
AMY: Yeah. And also the spring shower means it's washing away the pollen, which is a plus for me.
LUKE: That's true. Amy went and got her car washed today and I almost said something, but I was like, she's like super allergic. So I guess that's good. But in my opinion, getting your car washed during pollen season is pointless.
AMY: Yeah.
LUKE: Unless you time it perfectly, which I think you can do, but otherwise it's, you'll pay money and then you'll end up doing that. But I was more doing it for the inside, right?
AMY: And it was only $5. So that's a good deal.
LUKE: I know.
AMY: And they have a mat cleaner too. And they like put it through and it like does like the water and it like cleans your floor mats.
LUKE: Wait. So you take the floor mats out of the, wow.
AMY: Yeah, and you put it through the machine, it cleans them.
LUKE: Interesting.
AMY: That's why I went, the vacuums and the floor and the mat cleaners.
LUKE: My second job ever was washing cars.
AMY: Did I know that?
LUKE: Yeah, you did.
AMY: Did you just do it like?
LUKE: I did it like word of mouth.
AMY: Word of mouth, okay.
LUKE: Word of mouth business, did like the whole thing, like detailed and everything to save money for my first laptop actually.
AMY: Nice, okay, so are you gonna go detail my car now?
LUKE: I did buy Armor All Wipes recently.
AMY: Okay.
LUKE: And I said, they're here if you want them, but I guess I could do it. I did it on the interior of my car the other week.
AMY: Nice. Okay, do you wanna play a game?
LUKE: I love games.
AMY: The game is how well do you know me?
LUKE: Oh, I don't like these games.
AMY: What was my first job?
LUKE: Babysitting.
AMY: Yeah, technically. Do you know what my first paying job was? Well, Babysitting was paying.
My first W2 job?
LUKE: First like, employed. You were an employee.
I actually don't think I know, unless it's, was it before college?
AMY: Yeah.
LUKE: I don't think it was.
AMY: High school.
LUKE: Oh, the Cove.
AMY: Mm-hmm, good job.
LUKE: Right?
AMY: Yep.
LUKE: For those of you that don't know, that is Billy Graham's retreat center.
AMY: Yes.
LUKE: In the mountains of North Carolina.
AMY: I worked as a hostess in the dining room.
LUKE: She was slinging some sweet tea.
AMY: I was. That's actually when I learned to like sweet tea.
LUKE: Really?
AMY: When I learned to like tea, period. I did not drink tea before working there.
LUKE: Oh, you didn't drink tea before that.
AMY: And now I love it.
LUKE: I feel like as a kid, unless you're like, I don't know, I feel like I didn't like tea when I was really, when I was younger either.
AMY: How many countries have I visited? Not including the States.
LUKE: Right, three.
AMY: Good job. Can you name them?
LUKE: Can I, no. Yeah, Spain, Peru, and Nicaragua.
AMY: Muy bien.
LUKE: For some reason, there for a second, I thought that when you were in Spain, you also went to Italy, but--
AMY: I did not.
LUKE: You did not.
AMY: My parents did.
LUKE: That's right.
AMY: Have I—this is a duh, but you can answer anyway. Have I ever performed in front of an audience?
LUKE: Yes, you have with music, I guess technically.
AMY: Yeah, right.
LUKE: But also I think what they answer you're getting at is theater.
AMY: Yes, all four years of high school. However, I had a solo in the Christmas program when I was like nine.
LUKE: Wow.
AMY: I was a little angel.
LUKE: What did you sing?
AMY: It was just a little Christmas song. I couldn't even, like I could sing it to you right now, but I was in the name of it.
LUKE: Oh, but it's not like a radio.
AMY: No, nobody would know it. But I remember my dad helped me learn that solo.
LUKE: That's awesome.
AMY: Yep. I think that was my first performance. And I played hand percussion like Shaker and Tambourine at my church when I was really young too.
LUKE: Oh, wow. I didn’t know that.
AMY: Ooh, trick question.
LUKE: I love trick questions.
AMY: Is there anything you would change about me?
LUKE: No, you're perfect in every way.
AMY: I won't get my feelings hurt if you had to pick something.
LUKE: Well, I wish you had brown hair. (both laughing)
No, there's, honestly, there isn't.
AMY: That's sweet, babe.
LUKE: I guess maybe like if you enjoyed heavier electronic music.
AMY: Sure.
LUKE: That would be the only thing I would change, but you like a lot of the other music that I play, other than that, so.
AMY: I do, thankfully.
Okay, I'm gonna turn this on you. You get to pick a couple to ask me. I have not looked at these, so.
LUKE: You haven't looked at these?
AMY: No.
LUKE: This is just a giant list here. Oh, here's a good one.
Can you name my favorite superhero?
AMY: Batman?
LUKE: Yes.
AMY: Hey!
LUKE: Good job. By far the best superhero.
AMY: I love Marvel. (laughing) That's a Luke joke.
LUKE: It is, it's true.
Here's an interesting one. Okay, what kind of hobbies did I have as a child?
AMY: Running around outside, playing Legos, playing basketball—
LUKE: And other sports yeah but mostly basketball. That's pretty much it.
AMY: I was gonna say I can't really think of anything else and getting up early.
LUKE: Yeah. Alright last one.
What are my favorite pizza toppings?
AMY: Ooh pepperoni, sausage and peppers I would say.
LUKE: I'd say yes to pepperoni and sausage, but not peppers. Believe it or not, as I've gotten older, I've become a big pineapple and ham guy.
AMY: Ooh.
LUKE: Or pineapple and bacon.
AMY: Controversial.
LUKE: That's a whole other conversation, but pepperoni and sausage are good on pizza. But growing up, I was a big cheese guy. Cheese pizza, that's all I needed.
AMY: I like cheese or pepperoni and green peppers.
LUKE: Yes.
AMY: I think you got me on that.
LUKE: Really?
AMY: I think. All right, what you got for us?
LUKE: All right, moving on. So for those of you that don't know, we are recording this in April. I know it won't come out until probably later in May.
AMY: Probably May, yeah.
LUKE: But we're recording this in April and I thought it would be cool to just talk about the importance of April Fools to us.
AMY: Aw, that's cute.
LUKE: So for those of you that don't know, April Fools is a holiday where people play pranks on each other or practical jokes, whatever.
A very common thing here in the States at least.
And I wonder if that's the thing in other countries.
AMY: I know.
LUKE: That's why I was saying that. I'm not sure. Somebody who's in another country, please tell us. International, please let us know. I'm genuinely curious if that's a thing.
So our senior year of college as we were planning on getting engaged and being able to get married towards the end of that year, we had been toying around with, We were probably going to get engaged in March.
That was the plan. And between January and March, between January and March, I got the ring in early January.
Cause I talked to your dad in December, a little before Christmas. I got the ring and—
AMY: You had these mysterious errands that you had to run on Fridays.
LUKE: So I had the ring. Amy kind of knew it was coming soon, but didn't know exactly when.
AMY: My nails were ready people.
LUKE: Her nails were ready for a while, but I was just kind of waiting for the right time. I had kind of worked out this plan that I kind of wanted to walk through.
Nothing super elaborate, but just something that would be special for her, for us, but for her especially, that would mean a lot to her.
I don't remember if March was just super busy or what, but it got to be March 31st.
And long story short, I was living off campus at the time. Amy was in an apartment on campus. I lived with a couple other guys in a house off campus and we weren't able to sleep at the house that night due to some concerns.
And so Amy and her roommates said it was okay for me to sleep on their couch. - I'm sure that was a very uncomfortable night of sleep.
AMY: 'Cause that was not a nice couch.
LUKE: It was an awful couch. It was a campus provided couch.
AMY: Short.
LUKE: And it was like one of those, It's that material that's kind of like vinyl-y, I guess, right? And it's like, you know, like smells stick in it. Like who knows what has happened on that couch?
AMY: Bless your heart.
LUKE: And yeah, if I can put my like scratch my nails on something and it makes a sound like that, that's not a good thing.
Vinyl is one of the worst materials of all time. And it wasn't even full size. It was probably a five foot long couch.
Anyway, I don't remember much about the night of sleep. I just remember sleeping there. And that night as I'm going to bed, we had, I had gotten over there really late because of the whole situation that had occurred.
And Amy, it was like almost midnight at the time. And Amy was like, "Hey, did you see what day is it now?" 'Cause it was after midnight, right? I was like, "Oh, it's April. It's April now." And she was like, "Yeah, how about that engagement?" Or something.
AMY: Gave him a hard time.
LUKE: I was like, "Ha ha ha." And so, yeah, I just kind of laughed it off. So the next day I was working at my on-campus job and Amy was somewhere else.
And she was like, “Oh, I'm going to prank our parents in a group message, send them a picture of a hand that looks like mine with an engagement ring.”
AMY: Everyone fell for it.
LUKE: Everyone did. It was hilarious. And so then eventually after a while, Amy said, “Oh, April Fools.”
And so then I'm sitting at my on campus job. And I text Amy, I think you were at your internship.
AMY: Yeah, right.
LUKE: And I text her, I'm like, you know, it would be really funny is if we got engaged today. Like no one would believe us.
Our parents certainly wouldn't and everyone else would be like, oh, very funny. It's April Fools haha.
And Amy, being the planner that she was, was perfectly OK with that.
AMY: I know. I was like wanting to be surprised by the engagement. But when you brought that up, I was like, Who would I be if I didn't know when my own engagement was happening? I mean, that's the most on brand thing for me ever.
And it's a and it's become a funny story which goes which goes along with the funny story of how we first met.
LUKE: That's true, too. That will be that's a good maybe revealed next next happy hour.
AMY: Haha.
And I was at my internship when I got that text and I was doing an interpreting internship, so they would send me out on different interpreting jobs.
And I literally remember after getting that text, they were like, "Hey, do you wanna go on this job?" And I was like, "Actually, I think I'm gonna go "back to campus, I'm gonna go get engaged." (both laughing) They were like, "Okay."
LUKE: That's great, I had forgotten about that. So anyways, Amy came back to campus and we drove over to a nice park. So I was still able to do part of my original plan. So I wanted to take her to this nice park, go on a walk, be outside for a little bit and sit down on a nice, cute little bench.
Fun fact, this is a park that we now live right next to within walking distance.
AMY: We just walked by that bench this morning.
LUKE: And got to take her over there. Gave her the spiel.
AMY: A very sweet spiel.
LUKE: Yes. So I said everything I wanted to say.
And then I got down on, got off the bench and got down on one knee and asked her to marry me in the three languages that she knows.
Can't remember the order, but I, I just know that I asked her in sign language. So I learned how to sign it. I learned how to say it in Spanish, which is the second language she learned. And then finally I said it in English and she didn't say yes the first two times. But on the third time, she did finally say yes, so I was getting a little worried.
But yeah, I honestly don't can't remember what order they were in. But it took three tries, but she finally I wore down, I guess.
AMY: Ha ha. That was so sweet and thoughtful. That was like totally unexpected.
Do you remember? I've never asked you this. Do you remember like when you had that idea or did somebody?
LUKE: No, I came up with that idea. Gosh, I had that idea within I had that idea within a year before, probably, but I just came, it just like came to me one day.
I was like, Oh, that would be kind of cool. Like I was trying to think of something cool that would kind of relate to you as a person.
AMY: Oh, sweet.
LUKE: And that's what came to my head.
AMY: So did you Google how to sign it or did you like ask someone to teach you?
LUKE: I googled it. I went to old trusty Google and you know, double and triple checked on the sign language, especially to make sure that it made sense because how they were, I mean, like a lot of foreign languages, like some foreign languages, like Spanish, the ordering of words is different than English.
So I wanted to make sure everything made sense. If you asked me to say it in Spanish or sign it right now, I could not. I definitely can't remember it. But yeah, so it was pretty special.
AMY: That was so special. So sweet.
Then afterwards we called our parents back. Well, we had pranked them via text. So then we FaceTimed them and surprised them, which was so sweet to see their reactions. I can still like picture those calls.
LUKE: Oh, me too.
AMY: Like where the camera was or where they were in the house. And then we called, you know, we called all our close family throughout the rest of that afternoon.
LUKE: My youngest sister cried.
AMY: Yeah, thankfully it was like 1 p.m. So we had the rest of the day.
LUKE: Yes, we did have the rest of the day to kind of surprise everybody. We had a chance to like surprise our, two of our closest friends in person that evening. Like we were able to keep it a secret from them all day. I don't know how, 'cause I lived with the guy.
AMY: We snuck into her apartment.
LUKE: That's right, yes.
AMY: And we got a roommate to let us in. We knew they were coming, we knew they were coming to the apartment. And so we just stood there and we both had just held up our ring fingers as they walked in.
LUKE: That's right. I do remember that because I didn't have anything on mine, but right.
AMY: And then of course, all the excitement ensued, but it was a sweet story. And because it's on that date, like I'll get texts from random people because they'll remember it because it was a memorable date, which was sweet.
So I love that we have that story.
LUKE: It's pretty cool. So that's why April's kind of kind of special for us. I think. So very sweet. It is.
So to kind of wrap up, I had just a little, a random little question and maybe one extra bonus thing I wanted to talk about.
So first off, this came up the other night with some buddies of mine.
AMY: Oh boy.
LUKE: And we were talking about drinking water, right? It's a healthy thing to do. It's important.
And I would say, I guess we were talking about drinking water and like how sometimes, you know, it just hits different.
AMY: That's true.
LUKE: Also little weather update for you all is started to come down a little bit steadier. The clouds, the, the sky has gotten a little darker. The thunder is intermittent, but still present. And I don't think the mics are picking this up at all still, which is good, but still a little weather update from meteorologist Luke.
AMY: Thanks meteorologist Luke.
LUKE: Shoutout Carrot weather app as our sponsor and my eyes and years I guess. So anyway, we were talking about ways to drink water when it's like, it hits different, right?
Going back to that. And we were saying, and I would like your opinion on this, but best times to drink water, right? Or best feelings when you drink water.
For me, I came up with, I thought, the two biggest ones in my mind are hot summer day, you go inside and get a glass of, so you've been sweating, you need a glass of ice water. So you've got ice in the glass and that water gets real chilled, right? That's hard to beat.
The other good one, and I think this is superior, I think this is the best water experience anyone could have. Middle of the night, wake up, either you go to the bathroom or whatever, you're just shifting in your sleep, and you had something salty for dinner, so you're like a little extra parched, and you take a sip of that room temperature water, or maybe you're going and getting it in the fridge, but me personally, I keep water on my nightstand.
And that sip of water in the middle of the night is honestly one of the most, that's one of the most incredible things to consume or drinks to experience, I think, out of anything else.
AMY: It hits different, it really does.
LUKE: It does, I don't know why that is. I don't know if it's because you just haven't had anything to drink in so long. And when I sleep, you get kind of like cotton mouth maybe, your mouth gets kind of dry.
That's also the same feeling, you know, when you, whenever I nap, does this happen to you? Whenever you nap, like the flavor in your mouth tastes awful, right?
Maybe that's a common thing, but so anyway, water in the middle of the night is undefeated, in my opinion.
AMY: I was, it's funny you say that. I was thinking you were gonna say what I had in mind. It's very close to that. I think probably because I don't wake up in the middle of the night, Luke, you normally wake up in the middle of the night.
LUKE: Yes, at least once. so you don't get to experience that very much.
AMY: I never do, but I was gonna say, water right before bed, when you have--
LUKE: Interesting.
AMY: And it's not every night, it's like, on days that I haven't hydrated enough, and it's almost like my body is craving to catch up on the hydration.
LUKE: Right.
AMY: That drink before bed. Last night, actually, that happened to me.
LUKE: Really?
AMY: And you even commented on it. I don't know if you remember—
LUKE: Did I really? What did I say?
AMY: But you were like, just commenting on me drinking my water, you were just like mimicking me or something. And yeah, like that, exactly. I think that's exactly what you did.
LUKE: Probably.
AMY: But it feels like, and I'm so sorry to do this, but it feels like when you're watering your plant.
LUKE: Oh my gosh.
AMY: And instead of the water just like sitting on top and slowly sinking in, it just immediately sinks in and just wants more and more and more.
LUKE: Interesting.
AMY: I felt like that.
LUKE: Interesting.
AMY: Felt like the insatiable, just like drink water, but I couldn't obviously, because then I had to wake up in the middle of the night and I don't do that.
LUKE: Right.
AMY: But yeah, that, that was the experience that immediately came to mind.
LUKE: I, when I wake up, obviously, I guess when I go to bed, I do get up and pee a lot in the night. I get up at least once. It's just how it is.
And so I have to be careful after about like 8:30 of how much I'm drinking or it'll just it's just gonna make it's gonna make the evening worse it's gonna make the night worse so I try not to do that but I'm sure that is a good feeling.
I also probably stay more hydrated than you during the day you do so I probably wouldn't have the opportunity to experience that in the same way. But I see what you're saying.
AMY: Shout out Carla for helping you stay hydrated.
LUKE: Making me carry a water bottle everywhere.
